Make Your Own Sinamay Hat

2 Day Course

Dates available:

March 3rd & 4th  from 10am - 4pm

Start your millinery journey by making a stylish hat out of the wonderfully versatile sinamay fabric.  You can choose from an array of different shaped blocks from my collection; from brims to berets to pill boxes and perchers. You will learn how to hand block your hat using sinamay straw on a wooden hat block, wire and bind the edge and either attach it to a headband or insert a petersham head fitting for a brimmed hat.

I will then teach you how to trim your hat using different techniques with sinamay.  You will leave with a unique hat and brimming with inspiration, ready to start your next millinery project with all the skills you have learned:

You will learn the following skills:

  1. How to block your chosen shape from flat sinamay straw (either a small hat or a brim and crown)
  2. How to stiffen your sinamay
  3. How to wire and bind the edges of your hat base
  4. How to create and apply hat trims using sinamay and feather shaping techniques
  5. How to position and securely fit your hat onto and elastic or wire headband or how to fit a petersham head fitting

This Workshop includes:

  1. All materials

  3. Homemade refreshments
