Millinery Workshops in Gloucestershire: A Girls’ Day Out - Learn to Make Your Own Hat
Hat-making Workshops in the Cotswolds
Have you ever wondered what goes into making a beautiful hat? Or perhaps you're looking for a different kind of girls’ day out.... something creative, memorable and a little bit special?

A creative retreat
At my millinery studio nestled in the hills just outside Stroud, I offer a chance to switch off from the every day and step into the wonderful world of hat-making. Discover your creativity and enjoy a truly lovely day in the beautiful Cotswolds.
Whether you're planning a day out with friends or family, a special birthday celebration, an intimate Christmas do or would simply love to learn how to make a hat from scratch, there's a millinery experience to suit you.

A Girls' Day Out
If you're searching for unusual things to do in Gloucestershire, a creative workshop is a lovely way to spend time together, try something new and make memories along the way.
My Girls’ Day Out millinery workshop is designed to be an enjoyable, relaxed and hands-on experience (and it's not only for girls- everyone is welcome!). You don't need any previous experience or special skills, just a little curiosity and a willingness to have some fun!
You can choose from a variety of themes to suit your group and occasion. I'll introduce you to the materials, colours and decorative techniques used in millinery, helping you create your own hat or headpiece with guidance along the way.

I even provide home baked cakes and a delicious home-cooked lunch so that you can just focus on getting creative and enjoy some well-deserved time out. Celebrating? Then why not add bubbles!
One-to-one Millinery Tuition
If you have ever wanted to understand how a hat is constructed, how materials are shaped and blocked, or how a beautiful headpiece comes together, a private hat-making course is a wonderful place to start.
Working one-to-one means we can focus on your interests, work at your pace and explore the techniques involved in creating your own piece.
Whilst basic sewing skills are a bonus, no experience is necessary; I'll introduce you to the essential skills and guide you through the process, from choosing your materials to completing a piece to take home.

One-day millinery course: Learn the basics
A one-day course is ideal if you're curious about millinery and would like to learn the core skills involved in making a simple hat or headpiece.
During the day, you'll be introduced to the materials and techniques needed for your chosen project, working towards a finished headpiece in either felt or sinamay to take home.
It's a lovely introduction to the craft and gives you a taste of the skill, patience and creativity that go into making millinery by hand.
Perfect for: beginners, creative enthusiasts and anyone who would love to try something new while making their own wearable creation.

Two-day millinery course: Make a fitted hat with trim
If you'd like to take things further and create a more complete, fitted hat with decorative trimming, I'd recommend allowing two days.
This gives us more time to explore the construction and shaping of your hat, work through the techniques involved and develop the finishing details that make it truly yours.
We'll work towards a finished hat that you can take home, with the experience tailored to your chosen project and the techniques you want to learn.
Perfect for: anyone who wants a more in-depth introduction to hat-making and the satisfaction of creating a full fitted hat or a more substantial headpiece from scratch.
As every project is different, we will discuss your ideas and the materials involved before agreeing on the course length to make sure you get everything you hope for out of it.
Why learn millinery with me?

Millinery combines craftsmanship, creativity and an understanding of shape, colour and proportion. It's a wonderfully rewarding skill, whether you're interested in making hats for yourself, exploring a creative hobby or simply discovering how this beautiful craft works.
My approach is personal and practical. In my Gloucestershire studio, I can share my experience, demonstrate techniques and help you understand the process behind creating a hat or headpiece.
You can come for a fun creative day with friends or choose individual tuition if you'd like to concentrate on developing your own skills.
Either way, you'll have the opportunity to explore the craft in a welcoming setting and leave with a greater appreciation of the art of millinery, a new set of skills to use at home and a creation of your own.
